True Detective season 3 in the works with Deadwood creator

March 28, 2017 by Samuel Brace

There is life! True Detective is to be brought back to TV after a two year absence for a third season.

When season one of the show hit screens back in 2014, quite the cultural phenomenon was created.

The anthology drama based around two cops investigating a deeply disturbing string of murders hooked audiences on a level only rivalled by the likes of a Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones.

The cinematic nature of its construction, top tier writing, and the film star performances of its leads, helped to form one of the all time great season’s of television.

Unfortunately, after the disappointing and muddled season two, it looked like that would be the end for the gritty HBO drama.

But there seems to be life in the old dog yet, as news has been broken by EW that writer of the series Nic Pizzolatto has put together the first two episodes of a third season.

EW has also learned that the creator of the critically acclaimed drama Deadwood, David Milch, will be joining Pizzolatto in the writers room.

This is interesting indeed, considering that Pizzolatto had written the entirety of the show’s two seasons alone, which many attributed to the limp effort of the show’s second season.

With Milch on board, perhaps True Detective can recapture the magic that brought it so much initial attention. This is certainly one to look out for.
