True Detective’s Kali Reis joins Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson in Mercy

April 2, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Fresh off earning rave reviews in True Detective season four, World Boxing Council Champ Kali Reis has joined Amazon MGM’s buzzy sci-fi thriller Mercy.

Per Deadline’s report Reis will join Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Rebecca Ferguson (Dune: Part Two), and Annabelle Wallis (Malignant) in the movie, from Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov.

Written by Marco van Belle (Arthur & Merlin), Mercy is set in the near future when capital crime has increased, and follows a detective (Chris Pratt) who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.

Mercy is a being produced as a key part of Amazon’s push for theatrical releases of certain films following their purchase of MGM Studios, and will be released in theatres rather than directly to Amazon Prime’s streaming service. It will go before cameras this spring with a release date of August 15th, 2025.

Reis can currently be seen in crime thriller Asphalt City (read our ★★★ review here) alongside Sean Penn, Tye Sheridan and Mike Tyson, and is next up in Wind River: Rising, the eagerly anticipated sequel to Taylor Sheridan’s 2017 original.
