Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick and Matt Lucas join Mads Mikkelsen in graphic novel adaptation Polar

February 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in October it was announced that Mads Mikkelsen had been cast as the lead in Polar, an adaptation of Victor Santos’ Dark Horse graphic novel Polar: Came From the Cold from Netflix and Constantin Film.

Well, cameras have now officially started rolling on the project, which is being directed by Jonas Akerlund (Spun) from a script by Jayson Rothwell (Silent Night), and we have word that Mikkelsen is being joined in the cast by Vanessa Hudgens (Powerless), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and Matt Lucas (Doctor Who).

Polar will see Mikkelsen playing Duncan Vizla, a.k.a. the Black Kaiser, the world’s top assassin. As he settles into retirement, his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he soon finds himself being hunted by an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced. Having no choice but to return to the shadowy life he thought he’d left behind, he must use his arsenal of deadly skills to outsmart his enemies and protect an innocent woman.

Netflix is set to release Polar in 2019 in all markets except Canada, Germany and China, where Constantin Film will distribute.
