Warner Bros. reportedly has two Birds of Prey scripts, both featuring Harley Quinn and Batgirl

April 20, 2018 by Gary Collinson

A few days ago, it was revealed that Warner Bros. has enlisted up-and-coming filmmaker Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) to direct an “untitled DC girl gang movie” based upon the comic book property Birds of Prey and featuring the return of Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Well, thanks to Variety’s Justin Kroll, we now have a couple of further tidbit of information, with Kroll reporting that Warner Bros. has two different versions of the scripts, both of which feature Harley and Barbara Gordon/Batgirl but with different characters for the rest of the team.

Couple of BIRDS OF PREY tidbits I've learned since the Cathy has come on as director. There are two versions of script, only constant is Harley and Barbara Gordon in both. remaining characters different in both scripts.

Kroll also went on to reveal that Suicide Squad 2 could begin filming almost immediately after Birds of Prey wraps, with Warner Bros. having pushed back the sequel in favour of the DC heroine ensemble.

Warner Bros. did intend on introducing Batgirl to the DCEU through a solo movie directed by Joss Whedon, although the Avengers (and Justice League) director left the project earlier this year after failing to crack the story. Nevertheless, Warner Bros. is still pressing ahead with plans for the solo film, and has tapped Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson to pen the script.
