Y: The Last Man TV adaptation finds a new showrunner, on track for 2020

June 22, 2019 by Gary Collinson

In April, FX Networks announced that it had decided not to move forward with its long-gestating Y: The Last Man TV adaptation “in its current form”, instead choosing to part ways with showrunners Michael Green (American Gods) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage) over creative differences.

Well, it seems things are about to pick up again, as THR is reporting that Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom, The Killing) has signed on to take over showrunning duties on the series – titled simply Y – which is said to remain on course for a 2020 premiere.

“Eliza Clark is an enormously talented writer and producer whose ambitious vision for Y will only enhance the mystique and allure of this powerful story,” said FX executive Nick Grad. “We are thrilled to have her on board and partner with this stellar cast, [along with creator Brian K. Vaughn, producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, and director Melina Matsoukas.”

“A decade ago I devoured the complete Y: The Last Man series cover to cover, imagining how it might take shape on screen,” added Clark. “It introduced me to the amazing work of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra and the complex, fascinating world of Y. I’m thrilled to tell this story and to be working with this immensely talented cast.”

At this point, it seems the plan is to keep the original cast assembled by Green and Croal, which includes Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk), Diane Lane (Justice League), Imogen Poots (Green Room), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Marin Ireland (Hell or High Water) and Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours).
