Comic Book Review – Star Trek/Green Lantern #2

August 12, 2015 by Villordsutch

Villordsutch reviews Star Trek/Green Lantern #2…

Hal Jordan meets Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise for the first time as six Lantern rings choose new bearers! But which Trek characters – and which alien races – will be selected? Iconic franchises collide for the first time in this all-new galaxy-spanning epic!

If you missed last month’s Star Trek / Green Lantern Issue #1 [review here] not only did something quite brilliant go straight past you, but you’ve failed to noticed the opening of this story which is currently going full throttle and isnot slowing down for anybody or anything.  To be fair, there are moments through the story where those of you late for this party are given brief glimpses of what you’ve missed, like where the rings have ended up, or whose corpse is on the Enterprise etc., but this month’s chapter is focused on continuing the development on Spectrum War.

With all rings chosen expect for Red and Orange, Hal Jordan attempts to defend the Enterprise from Chang and his Yellow ring.  In the midst of the battle, as Hal attempts to find out why the corpse of Ganthet is aboard the Enterprise – also interestingly he’s never heard of Starfleet – Chekov with the power of the Indigo ring causes enough of a distraction to help the Enterprise make a strategic withdrawal.  We discover also who the Red and Orange rings seeks out – Red goes to a bitter Gorn called Glocon who seeks to rule, and chosen by Orange is a Romulan called Decius, who is sick and tired with the fact that the chastised Romulus, and bearing the blame for the destruction of Vulcan, is becoming weaker in his eyes.  As our issue comes to a close we witness changes to the Klingon Council with a brutal one Klingon Coup d’état, all done with a Yellow ring generated bat’leth, and it’s here he finds out when you place yourself on a high pedestal you can fall a very long way.

As with issue #1 Star Trek/Green Lantern is quite brilliant!  With Mike Johnson (writer), Angel Hernandez and Alejandro Sanchez (art and colours) delivering an unbelievably fantastic comic book that leaves no time to breath and will you whip – at breakneck speed – through the pages.  It is a perfect package of Star Trek and Green Lantern and as mentioned last month I don’t even consider myself a Green Lantern fan, but here I am desperate already for Issue #3 of this comic series, alas however I now have to wait a very long month.

Star Trek/Green Lantern “Spectrum War” is definitely the cross-over event of 2015!

Rating: 10/10
