Grand Theft Auto V hits a billion in just 3 days

September 20, 2013 by admin

Rockstar’s hugely-anticipated video game sequel Grand Theft Auto V has shattered entertainment records, having pulled in over $1 billion in revenue in its first three days of release, publisher Take Two has announced today.

GTAV hit shelves on Tuesday, making an astonishing $800 million in its first day, and has now become the fastest video game, movie or other entertainment product to reach the billion dollar mark. Last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II held the previous record, hitting a billion after 15 days on release, while Marvel’s The Avengers is the fastest movie to reach that figure, doing so in 19 days.

Grand Theft Auto V has already proven to be a huge success for Rockstar and Take Two, who have sunk around $275 million into its development and marketing, and at this point it would seem a certainty it will go on to overtake Call of Duty: Black Ops to become the highest grossing video game of the generation.
