Tom Hanks would like to play The Flash, or any comic book character for that matter

October 17, 2013 by admin

These days it seems every actor in Hollywood is keen to jump on the superhero movie bandwagon, and even a two-time Oscar winner is no exception. Speaking to Showbiz 411 (via ComicBookMovie) to promote the release of his latest film Captain Phillips, Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump) has expressed his desire to take on the role of a superhero – or supervillain – even going so far as to throw his hat into the ring for DC’s Scarlet Speedster.

“No, [it’s not a choice not to appear in a superhero movie], they don’t ask me and I keep trying…Come on, I can do it [laughs]. Let me play a bad guy, let me play the bad guy against Batman. I’ll do anything, call me. They’ve never asked. What do I have to do? God, I want to throw a shield at somebody. I want that. And I don’t want to play the guy in the suit who tells the superheroes what’s going on, I don’t want to be that guy. ‘Well, you know Batman…Captain America, Iron Man, here’s what we’ve discovered’, I don’t want to be that guy. I want to get in there, I want to play The Flash or something like that. They’ll never give me a chance.”

While Hanks as The Flash seems a stretch, a supervillain role would certainly be an interesting proposition…
