Here’s the official press release:

“HOLLYWOOD, CA (August 10, 2014) – Following its incredible launch into theaters this weekend, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, divisions of Viacom, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA), announced today a sequel to the hit film “TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES” is underway with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes again on board to produce.

Bay will produce alongside his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick also producing. Screenwriters Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec (“MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL”) are again coming aboard to write the sequel and will also Executive Produce. The film will be released by Paramount Pictures on June 3, 2016.

Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures said, “To know moviegoers are embracing the Turtles with such enthusiasm is everything that we and all our filmmakers have been hoping for. Along with our partners Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes, and of course Cyma Zarghami and everyone at Nickelodeon, we are thrilled with this weekend’s result, the enduring power of this franchise, and the opportunity to make another one.”

Adam Goodman, President of Paramount’s Film Group said, “Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story.”

Starring Megan Fox and Will Arnett, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES opened in the U.S. and in key international markets this past weekend, earning $93.7M around the world, including $65M domestically.”
