Deadpool movie officially set for release in 2016

September 18, 2014 by Luke Owen

Hot off the heels of Ryan Reynolds talking about the test footage that first arrived online back in July, 20th Century Fox has officially announced that a Deadpool movie will be released on February 12th, 2016.

Tim Miller, who directed the test footage, will helm the movie and while Reynolds is not confirmed to be taking on the role, heavy bets are on that he will.

Reynolds first played Deadpool in the poorly-received X-Men Origins: Wolverine and has been linked with a solo movie for the last few years. In an interview with Niagra Falls Review he said, “the movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually.”

“And it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way,” he added.

With the news of Deadpool hitting theatres, 20th Century Fox have also pushed Assassin’s Creed back to 2016 with insiders saying the film won’t be ready for the proposed August 7th 2015 opening. Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four reboot will now take its place, taking a leaf out of Marvel’s playbook with Guardians of the Galaxy to take advantage of the usually slow August.
