Adam McKay might direct a Marvel movie

October 23, 2014 by Gavin Logan

Last week Adam McKay spoke about his involvement in Ant-Man following Edgar Wright’s departure, discussing the rewriting process with Paul Rudd and admitting that it was his busy schedule that got in the way of him actually taking the directors seat, allowing Peyton Reed to step in. Just when you thought his chances of directing for Marvel had passed him by, McKay has since revealed in an interview with Crave that it could still happen in the future.

When asked about his deal with Marvel, McKay said: “I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with them that we’re kicking around ideas.”

He was specifically asked about whether he was in line to direct: “Yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters…we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on.”

The fact that this comes from the horses mouth means that it isn’t just a silly rumour but a genuine possibility. As discussed on various occasions before, the problem is that McKay’s previously directed movies have all been comedies so it’s difficult to see how and where he would fit in, especially when you consider the dark tone that Avengers: Age of Ultron has taken and where the MCU will presumably be after it. Maybe he’s in discussions for one of the upcoming television shows on Netflix?

Which character(s) do you think McKay could tackle?
