Will The Hulk appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

November 3, 2014 by Thomas Roach

Thomas Roach on whether The Hulk could appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2…

There’s been a rumour circulating for a while now that the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy would follow the Planet Hulk comic book storyline, with Mark Ruffalo’s character teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. These rumours were slammed by Guardians director James Gunn, but there may still be some truth to them.

I don’t think that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will follow Planet Hulk, but there is no reason that Hulk could not team up with the cosmic heroes. From the Phase Three announcement last week, there was no room for another solo Hulk movie, but Kevin Feige said that Mark Ruffalo will appear in several of the upcoming movies. Mark Ruffalo has also spoken about not knowing which films he will star in yet, so it’s possibility one of these could be Guardians 2.

As yet, there is no subtitle for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It’s possible that the subtitle could give away some major plot details and is being kept under wraps until the film universe sets up those events… such as The Hulk getting blasted into space at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel has already announced the subtitle for Avengers: Infinity War, so there is no reason why they wouldn’t know the subtitle for Guardians 2 when the film is much closer to release.

Guardians aside, I also think that Hulk will be absent from Captain America: Civil War. I feel as it is not an Avengers movie, some of the Avengers roster will be absent (namely Thor, and that Black Widow will be killed off in Age of Ultron, but that is another story). It would have made more sense to tackle the Civil War storyline in an Avengers movie but as it is this won’t be the case. I guarantee many of the Avengers are going to be absent from Marvel’s Civil War.

Overall, there is a chance that Hulk will be seen in Guardians 2, depending on the outcome of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Until the release of that film, Marvel fans are going to speculate. Marvel Studios plans ahead and I don’t think they would just include something on the spot, so The Hulk’s involvement in Phase Three will have been planned for a long time, and by May we should have a much better idea of what the future holds for The Hulk…

Do you think it is likely that Hulk will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2? Let us know…
