Joel Edgerton, Jon Bernthal, Joe Manganiello and Gary Sinise up for Suicide Squad

January 23, 2015 by Thomas Roach

It was recently announced that Tom Hardy has left the role of Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, with Warner Bros. eyeing Jake Gyllenhaal for his replacement, only for the Nightcrawler star to decline.

Well, according to CinemaBlend, the studio has turned its attention to Joel Edgerton (Exodus: Gods and Kings) and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) for the role, while the site also claims that Joe Manganiello (True Blood) is being lined up for Deathstroke.

On another casting note, it has now been reported by Latino Review that Gary Sinise (CSI: New York) is in talks to play General Wade Eiling, a character who first appeared as a villain for Captain Atom before branching out into other DC properties, including the Suicide Squad. Most recently Clancy Brown played the character on The CW’s The Flash.

Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5th 2016 and will feature a cast that includes Will Smith (Hancock) as Deadshot, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis (How to get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller. Jesse Eisenberg (The Double) is expected to reprise his role as Lex Luthor.
