Lee Pace will not return for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, says James Gunn

January 25, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

In a special Q&A event on Facebook, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has been talking abut his hit Marvel movie and disclosed a few details about the 2017 sequel, including confirmation that Lee Pace, who portrayed the first film’s “big bad” Ronan the Accuser, will not be returning for the follow-up.

Gunn replied to a question about whether Ronan would ever show up again by stating “who knows,” before adding “not in 2, no.” His response is not too surprising, given the events of the finale saw Ronan destroyed by the Guardians, and it looks very likely that the Accuser will stay dead as the franchise, and cosmic side of the universe, expands. That being said, Gunn will never say never: “Perhaps someday.”

You can read the full Q&A session over on Facebook, where Gunn divulges some more news and details on the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy is available now on Blu-ray and DVD, with Guardians 2 set for release in May 2017.
