Taron Egerton rumoured for young Han Solo role in Star Wars spin-off movie

February 21, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Originally published February 21, 2015. Updated November 7, 2019.

If you’re looking for a juicy Star Wars rumour this weekend, then UK tabloid The Sun has just the tonic for you, as the newspaper is reporting that Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton is wanted for the role of a young Han Solo in one of the several Star Wars spin-off movies in development at Disney and Lucasfilm.

According to the report, the young Han Solo movie will go into production after Gareth Edwards’ 2016 movie (which may or may not be about a group of bounty hunters stealing the plans to the Death Star) and will explore “how Harrison Ford’s iconic character got the Millennium Falcon and as well as showing how he fell out with Jabba the Hutt.”

If there’s any truth to this report – and given the source, that’s a pretty huge if – then it would seem that the long-rumoured Han Solo movie is set to be Disney’s 2018 release, which currently has Josh Trank (The Fantastic Four) attached to direct.

What do you think of Taron Egerton for a young Han Solo? And would you even want to see a Han Solo spin-off movie?
