David Lynch exits Twin Peaks revival

April 6, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Some bad news for fans of Twin Peaks this Easter Monday, with co-creator David Lynch announcing via Twitter that he will no longer be involved in the upcoming sequel series from Showtime.

“After one year and four months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done,” said Lynch. “This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.”

In response to Lynch’s decision, a Showtime spokesman said: “We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”

Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn and Dana Ashbrook have all been confirmed as reprising their roles, and Lynch had been expected to direct all nine episodes of the new season, having penned the scripts with Mark Frost.

Are you disappointed that David Lynch won’t be returning to Twin Peaks, and should Showtime press ahead with its plans without him? Let us know your thoughts…
