Dominic Cooper set to star in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher

April 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After news broke last night that actress Lucy Griffiths was set to join the cast of AMC’s Preacher, it was quickly followed with more news that young Howard Stark himself Dominic Cooper is close to a deal to star as Jesse Custer in the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg produced-pilot.

Cooper, who has recently featured in Dracula Untold, Agent Carter and Need for Speed, would join a cast that already includes Griffiths as Emily Woodrow, an new original character to the series and Jesse’s love interest, Ruth Negga (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Tulip, Ian Colletti (Rake) as Arseface and Joseph Gilgun (This Is England) as Cassidy.

Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios are co-producing the project, produced by Goldberg and Rogen with their Point Grey company, along with Neal Moritz. Sam Caitlin (Breaking Bad) has written the pilot with Rogen and Goldberg.

Preacher was first published in 1995, and told the story of Jesse Custer, a small town Texas preacher who, nearly at his faith’s end, finds himself merged with a supernatural entity, Genesis, birthed from both an angel and a demon. Imbued with the word of God (the ability to make anyone obey his commands), Jesse hits the road, reunited with his ex girlfriend, Tulip, and joined by a rowdy Irish vampire, Cassidy, to track down God himself and force him to explain why he abandoned his duties in Heaven.
