George Lucas thinks another Howard the Duck movie could happen

April 19, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Howard the Duck is one of Marvel’s more bizarre creations and when the original movie came out in 1986 it didn’t exactly take the box-office by storm. Speaking recently at the Tribeca Film Festival producer and co-creator George Lucas commented on the movie’s lack of success and mentioned that even the worst movies can “float up to the surface of the lake, and then they become cult classics. It means you made an interesting movie or a weird movie, and a small group of people love it.”

During the talk Lucas claimed that Howard the Duck had become such a “cult classic” that he even believes Marvel might revisit it for a feature film in the near future, which apparently got a roaring applause from the crowd in attendance. Whilst this may sound like a long-shot it’s not entirely out of the question following Howard’s short but amusing cameo at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy.

“I have a feeling that Marvel’s gonna redo it because of the technology they have today…It’s a digital duck. When you have a digital duck you can do anything. You can make it act.”

Although GOTG director James Gunn admitted that the addition of the Howard the Duck cameo was only decided “very late in the game” the unexpected positive reaction from the fans prompted Marvel to create another comic book series dedicated to the quacky private investigator, which debuted last month.

We all know how much George Lucas loves his digital technology but does anyone else want to see a Howard the Duck movie based in the MCU?
