Neil Gaiman to write episodes of American Gods

June 28, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Earlier this month the American Gods TV show finally got a series green-light from Starz after what seemed like an eternity in development hell. The original plans were for HBO and Tom Hanks’ production company to work on an adaptation but last year Starz picked up the rights and appointed Bryan Fuller as producer.

After sharing some pretty cool concept art last week, Bryan Fuller has been speaking about where the show is at in development right now. While on the red carpet at the Saturn Awards Fuller gave up the first details about the show to Collider and revealed that original author Neil Gaiman himself will be writing several episodes:

“We are cranking away. We’ve got the first two scripts written already. It’s going to be very exciting. It’s wonderful to be working with Neil Gaiman….[he is] going to be writing episodes of the show…it’s gonna have scope.”

Fuller confirmed that he was attached to the whole first series and that American Gods is his “next deal”. He also continued, “and then hopefully we’ll see what happens with Hannibal.”

American Gods is a Hugo and Nebula Award winning fantasy novel written by English author Neil Gaiman and was first published in 2001. It follows ex-con Shadow who befriends a strange man named Mr. Wednesday after his release from prison, which leads him down a mythologically destined path.

Casting is set to get underway imminently but no air date has been set yet.
