Rumour: Villain for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 revealed

January 21, 2016 by Luke Owen

Originally published January 21, 2016. Updated November 29, 2022.

There’s been quite a bit of speculation thrown around Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, much of which has already been shot down by director James Gunn. Well, now we have a new rumour.

According to Geek.com – who claim to have sources close to the production – the villain for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 will be none other than Ego the Living Planet. Yes you read that right.

In the comics, Ego the Living Planet is the result of the cosmic adventures of The Stranger, who took a non-living planet and made it sentient. Since then, Ego has been on a quest to find purpose and become a galactic conqueror. However, those plans were stopped by Thor, who has since become an ally of his. Although, he has bounced back and forth between good and evil.

Ego the Living Planet also has ties to other Guardians of the Galaxy characters, including Thanos and The Collector.

Chalk this one up to rumour for the moment, as nothing is confirmed. But the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now finished.
