Star Wars: Episode VIII script out to the cast

Last week, it was announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII has been pushed back to December 15th 2017, with rumours suggesting the delay was to allow for rewrites to the script to increase the focus on Star Wars: The Force Awakens favourites Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren. Well, those rumours were either wide of the mark, or the rewrites have already been completed, as both Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) have taken to social media to reveal that they’ve now seen the screenplay…

Back in December, John Boyega had suggested that filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII would get underway “in a few weeks” and it’s unclear at this point whether Lucasfilm has delayed the start of production on the film, or Disney has simply pushed it back to December in an effort to repeat the box office success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If the cast now have the script, we may be able to assume the latter…

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set for release on December 15th 2017, and will be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper) with returning stars Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Domnhall Gleeson (General Hux), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Katana), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Anthony Daniels (C3-PO) joined by newcomer Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) in an unknown role.
