The Flash heading to the small screen

July 30, 2013 by admin

For those hoping that the recently announced Batman vs Superman film might lead to those rumoured Flash and Justice League films, I’m afraid we have some bad news: Flash is potentially heading to TV.

Deadline has reported that The CW and Warner Bros. TV will today be discussing the project and getting a pilot episode shot. The plan is supposedly to introduce the Flash on the next season of Arrow and spin off to his own show. Flash would be written by Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and directed by David Nutter, the creative team from Arrow.

Whilst this of course does not stop a Flash movie from happening, it appears that for now the priority is not to bring the character to the big screen and instead adapt him for TV. This appears to be yet another indication that Warner Bros. just do not have faith in any of their DC properties outside of Batman, which is a huge shame. While Marvel continue to have faith in their films, Warner Bros. seem to be afraid to dip their feet in the pool and are very much afraid they’ll sink.

To be fair, the Flash has great serial TV show potential, due to his abilities to transverse through time and if they go with Barry Allen as the Flash who works in a forensic crime lab, the show can be a sort of detective show taking place in different time periods each week – think Quantum Leap meets CSI.

Despite that, it is a little disappointing that after the Batman vs Superman announcement when we perhaps felt a little closer to seeing solo films for DC characters that aren’t Batman or Superman, it seems we might be even further away than ever.
