Charlie Hunnam, Jon Bernthal and Dan Stevens linked to Snake Plissken in team-based remake of Escape from New York

August 31, 2014 by Gary Collinson

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about producer Joel Silver’s planned remake of Escape from New York. Back in March of 2013 when the movie was first announced, Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) and Jason Statham (The Expendables) were linked to the role of Snake Plissken, portrayed of course by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter’s 1981 cult classic and its subsequent sequel. Now Starlog is reporting that Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim), Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) and Dan Stevens (The Guest) top the shortlist for the role, with Hunnam said to be the number one choice, and an offer expected to be made “any day now.”

UPDATE – We spoke to Dan Stevens about the rumour, which you can read here.

Furthermore, the report goes on to stage that the remake will adopt more of a team-based approach, with Plissken leading a team that consists of “Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.”

Are you looking forward to this Escape from New York remake, and who would you like to see donning the eyepatch?
