Exclusive: Mark Millar talks The Fantastic Four reboot, “everything I’ve seen looks good”

January 15, 2015 by admin

Yesterday we brought you the exclusive word from Kingsman: The Secret Service director and The Fantastic Four producer Matthew Vaughn, who has seen the reboot and praised the work of Josh Trank (Chronicle). Today we bring you a snippet from our chat with Mark Millar, whose comic book is the basis for Kingsman: The Secret Service, who gave us his thoughts on the Fantastic Four reboot.

“I’ve seen little bits, but not the full [movie],” Millar told us. “There is a cut, but I haven’t seen it yet”.

“Everything I’ve seen looks good. I think Josh Trank is such a brilliant director that I sort of relaxed about it. I think it will work out good.”

“Fox are very clever [with directors],” Millar added. “They got James Mangold for The Wolverine, they got Matthew [Vaughn] for X-Men: First Class, and then Bryan Singer in for X-Men: Days of Future Past. And then Josh [Trank]. There’s no weak director in there and I think the big mistake some studios can make is to start thinking it’s the brand that is going to sell it. The brand can be crap. The brand is only as good as the people making it. Like… I’ve seen great Spider-Man films, and I’ve seen very poor Spider-Man films – and it’s entirely down to the people behind the camera. Same with Bond, same with Star Trek. So I think Fox are very wise to spend money on directors and I think Josh has got a voice. I loved Chronicle. It came out the same year as The Avengers – and it was my favourite superhero movie that year. Which is a big thing! So, I feel good about it – it will be interesting.”

Mark Millar noted that he is not a producer on the movie, and is just acting as a consultant – a job he was hired by 20th Century Fox to do back in 2012. He also told us that contract is set to expire in the next year and a half.

Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as the Human Torch, Jamie Bell (Nymphomaniac) as The Thing, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, Reg E. Cathey (The Wire) as Dr. Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) as Harvey Elder.
