Billy Dee Williams reportedly set for “a fun cameo” in Star Wars: Episode VIII

March 3, 2015 by Gary Collinson

When the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was announced, one character absent from the list of returnees to the galaxy far, far away was that of Billy Dee Williams, who played Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Recently, Williams – who has reprised the role for an episode of Star Wars Rebels – said that he “has a feeling” he’ll show up in Star Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars: Episode IX, and now the British tabloid The Sun is claiming that Williams has been told he’ll have “a fun cameo” in the next movie, which is being directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), and unsurprisingly, he’s “definitely up for it”.

The Sun isn’t exactly renowned for dropping genuine scoops, it must be said, so this is probably little more than speculation based upon Williams’ previous comments. Still, if you were disappointed that Lando is going to be absent from The Force Awakens, all signs seem to indicate that the character will be making his return to the the Saga at some point in the near(ish) future.
