Pez dispensers to get their own animated movie

August 3, 2015 by admin

If The LEGO Movie has shown us anything, it’s that you can make a movie about virtually anything and it should, in theory, make money. Since its release, we’ve heard that we’ll be getting a Playdoh movie, and now Variety are reporting that Pez are looking to dip their toes into the movie arena.

Envision Media Arts have hired Cameron Fey (Brothers in Laws) to write the screenplay about the novelty line of candy dispensers that feature the heads of pop culture icons like Mickey Mouse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Star Wars.

“Pez candy is beloved by children and adults alike,” EMA CEO and founder Nelson said. “With Cameron Fay we’ve created a world unique to Pez and a story that will touch the hearts of many”.

Pez candy first came onto the scene in 1927, but they hit the big time when they started putting plastic heads on top of their dispensers in 1955, starting with Mickey Mouse and Santa Claus. Pez dispensers are now seen as collectible items, with a ‘soft-head Mickey Mouse’ one selling for $7,000. The most valuable Pez dispensers are three based on ‘Political Donkeys’, one of which was owned by John F. Kennedy, and are valued at $13,000 each.

So… a Pez movie… what do we think?…
