The Week in Star Wars – Sherlock star joins Rogue One, Netflix rumours and a first look at Ken Leung in The Force Awakens

August 2, 2015 by Luke Owen

This edition of The Week of Star Wars sees a Sherlock star joining the cast of Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, some rumours surrounding a Netflix spin-off series and a first look at Ken Leung in Star Wars: The Force Awakens…

Kicking things off this week, we got the news that Sherlock star Jonathan Aris has joined the cast of Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. According to a BBC reporter named Lizo Mizimba (whose name has cropped up a lot this past week), Aris will play a character called Senator Jebel, while a (somewhat dubious) rumour emerged suggesting that Felicity Jones could be playing the daughter of an iconic villain…

…Speaking of Star Wars spin-offs and there are new rumours of a Star Wars TV show in development. Remember the first time we heard about a Star Wars TV show? It feels like it was about 2 decades ago! Anyway, these new rumours suggest Disney and Lucasfilm are looking to strike a deal with Netflix to develop three spin-off shows based on the franchise. No word yet on what the shows could be about, but there was some rumours a few months back about a trilogy of Obi-Wan Kenobi movies, so these new rumours could tie into those. And while this is speculation at the moment, there is every chance Disney could be working on Star Wars shows with Netflix, considering the huge success they’ve had with Marvel and Daredevil…

…Moving over to Star Wars: The Force Awakens and we got a new leaked photo that gives our first look at Ken Leung’s character in the movie. There’s no word yet on character name, but it looks as though he’ll be part of the First Order…

…And for something a bit different, here’s a look at some products you can buy your pets based on the Star Wars franchise…

…Speaking of which, here’s my review of a couple of Star Wars related gadgets and accessories, available from Hawkin’s Bazaar. I review two 3D Mood Lights for Darth Vader and Stormtrooper as well as a ceramic mug in the shape of everyone’s favourite Sith Lord. And as a special treat, here’s a picture of me drinking a cup of tea from the Darth Vader ceramic helmet…

…Looking at the comics side of the Star Wars franchise and we got a first look at a new variant cover for Star Wars: Lando #3, which goes on sale on August 26th…

…Back at Comic Con, we got the announcement that we were getting another comic featuring Darth Vader called Star Wars: Vader Down. Well, now we’ve got our first look at the comic book covers and the news that the collected edition of Star Wars could push 250,000 sales. “When Star Wars #1 was released at the beginning of the year we were thrilled at the reception and the record-setting sales numbers. Once again, Star Wars continues to skyrocket the Marvel name even higher with the anticipated pre-order print-run between 200K and 250K units for Star Wars Vol 1 TPB,” said David Gabriel, SVP Print, Sales and Marketing. “This is an unheard of number, but given the success that we’ve had with Star Wars since January, including the insurmountable 5MM units across all the Star Wars’ series, second prints and overprints, we don’t see any issue in reaching such a number of printed copies of this highly anticipated collected edition…”

…And lastly, here’s another article from our own Neil Calloway based on the news that Michael Jackson wanted to play Jar Jar Binks.

That’s it for this week – may the Force be with you.
