Marvel developing New Warriors comedy series featuring Squirrel Girl

August 31, 2016 by Gary Collinson

We’ve had a few actresses declaring their interest in playing Squirrel Girl lately – most notably Anna Kendrick and Stranger Things‘ Shannon Purser – and it looks like the opportunity may be on the cards, as TV Line is reporting that the fan favourite character is set to take centre stage in a New Warriors TV series.

According to the site, Marvel and ABC Studios have been developing the project as a half-hour comedy series, which is currently being shopped around to cable networks and streaming services. Although details are scarce, much like the comic books, New Warriors will feature a team of teenage superheroes, albeit with a focus on Doreen Green / Squirrel Girl.

In addition to New Warriors, Marvel fans have two other new shows to look forward to, with Cloak and Dagger receiving a series order from Freeform and Hulu developing a pilot for Runaways.
