UPDATE: James Mangold says he’s working on a black & white version of Logan

March 10, 2017 by Ricky Church

Since promotion for Logan began, many fans have wondered whether or not a black and white version of the film could be on the horizon, seeing as since many of the promotional photos were released in that format. Director James Mangold has previously teased the possibility of a B&W version, and now he’s all but confirmed it on Twitter by saying he’s “working on it”.

@freakwithamouth Good to know… working on it!

It wouldn’t exactly be unique if Logan were to get a black & white version once it is released on Blu-ray and various formats, seeing as George Miller did something similar recently with Mad Max: Fury Road and the Black & Chrome Edition.

UPDATE: Mangold has now confirmed to Deadline that the black and white version will feature on the home-entertainment release, owing to the reception to his monochrome promotional images:

“I think it even surprised everyone to the degree that there is a kind of a running assumption that black and white is a turnoff for most people,” said Mangold. “It caused such an extreme reaction, and so much appreciation for these pictures, and then people immediately wondering if the film itself was going to be in black and white, and so we are giving it a whirl, and I think the Blu-ray will come out with a pass on it. I think it will be a very handsome black and white version of the picture.”

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan reunites Hugh Jackman with The Wolverine director James Mangold and also stars Hugh Jackman, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Elise Neal.
