Rumoured details on a Green Lantern Corps cameo in Justice League

March 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Warning. A potential spoiler (or rampant speculation) for Justice League follows..

Back in November it was reported that despite the lack of Hal Jordan or John Stewart in Justice League, Zack Snyder’s latest DC blockbuster will feature a member of the Green Lantern Corps, who will appear “in a key sequence.”

Now, that rumour came by way of Umberto Gonzalez, a.k.a. El Mayimbe, and now Geek Feed is following this up with their own report, claiming that said Green Lantern will be none other than Abin Sur.

Should the original rumour about a Green Lantern Corps cameo prove true, then Abin Sur would certainly make sense for a cameo appearance, given that he’s the immediate predecessor of Hal Jordan, and his power ring chooses Hal as his replacement following his death. We saw him in the 2011 Ryan Reynolds movie, where he was played by Temuera Morrison.

However, seeing as 2020’s Green Lantern Corps movie will reportedly see an experienced Hal Jordan taking John Stewart under his wing, you’d assume Hal would have been serving as a Green Lantern for some time – i.e. prior to Justice League. Now Abin Sur could well feature in a flashback, but unless you’re exploring Hal Jordan’s origin in a movie that Hal Jordan isn’t even in, what would be the point?

Personally, I’m dubious of Geek Feed’s report for two reasons: firstly, they claim to have been sitting on the information for six months, and you’d not sit on that information for six months; and secondly, the title of the report says “allegedly” and the article states it “should be taken with a grain of salt”. To me, if you’re not confident enough that your own scoop is accurate and you’ve doubled up on the get out clauses, there’s a very strong chance that it’s just pure guesswork.

Still, it’s plausible guesswork…

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on November 17th 2017.
