Dwayne Johnson to take a Jungle Cruise with Disney

April 9, 2017 by Gary Collinson

While he’s been attached to the project for a couple of years, THR is reporting that Dwayne Johnson has now officially closed a deal to star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, based upon the company’s iconic theme park ride. He will also produce with Dany Garcia, his ex-wife, manager and producing partner.

Disney has been developing and fine tuning the script since 2015, with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek Beyond) penning the most recent draft. The project is now a go, and the search underway for a director ahead of a planned spring 2018 shoot.

Jungle Cruise becomes the latest addition to Johnson’s packed slate, which includes The Fate of the Furious, Baywatch, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Rampage, Shazam!, Black Adam, Skyscraper, San Andreas 2, Doc Savage… the list goes on.
