David Ayer says Gotham City Sirens remains in development

December 23, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in December of last year it was announced that Suicide Squad helmer David Ayer would be directing a Harley Quinn-led spinoff entitled Gotham City Sirens, which was expected to see Harley joined by fellow femme fatales Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

Although the project seemed to be a priority for Warner Bros. and DC, it was absent from Warner’s DC slate announcements at San Diego Comic-Con and Brazil’s CCXP, and with several other Harley Quinn projects subsequently announced – Suicide Squad 2, Joker and Harley Quinn, and a possible solo movie – there has been a lot of speculation that Gotham City Sirens has now been shelved.

Well, not so according to David Ayer himself, with the filmmaker confirming to Collider during a promotional interview for his new film Bright that Gotham City Sirens is “in development”, although he wasn’t prepared to elaborate further.

Margot Robbie has revealed recently that she expects to be reprising the role of Harley Quinn in 2018, and while it’s unclear which movie it will be for, Suicide Squad 2 does seem the furthest along the development track, with rumours suggesting it will begin filming in March.
