Charmed, Magnum P.I. and Cagney and Lacey reboots get pilot orders

January 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

A couple of days ago it was announced that a female-led revival of the U.S. sitcom The Greatest American Hero is moving forward, and now we have word on another three TV series set for the reboot treatment.

First up is the news that The CW has handed out a pilot order to Charmed from Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin) and writers and co-executive producers Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin. According to the network, “this fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”

Meanwhile, CBS has placed pilot orders for reboots of two 80s series in Magnum P.I. and Cagney and Lacey. Peter Lenkov (Hawaii Five-O, MacGyver) is behind Magnum P.I., which will deliver an updated version of the original following Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who now puts his skills to use as a private investigator in Hawaii. Cagney and Lacey meanwhile is being written and executive produced by Bridget Carpenter (Westworld) and will follow the two titular female detectives as they keep the streets of Los Angeles safe.
