Rumour: Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to appear in Sony’s Venom

January 16, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Despite the fact that Marvel’s Kevin Feige has been adamant that Sony’s various Spider-Man spinoff movies – including Venom and Silver & Black – will be entirely separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s been a lot of confusion as to where the movies will sit in terms of continuity.

Much of the confusion stems from producer Amy Pascal’s comments, where she said that the spinoffs take place “in the same reality” as Spider-Man: Homecoming – i.e. “the same reality” as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And, while Feige has said that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man won’t be making an appearance in Venom, a new rumour suggests that the wall-crawler will indeed be sharing the screen with Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock.

“I’m going to say it right here on this show, Spider-Man is going to be in Venom,” said Collider’s Jon Schnepp said on an episode of Movie Talk. “For the last couple months, we’ve been talking about Venom, we’ve been hearing about how Sony’s keeping it all separated. Spider-Man’s in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. Like a cameo, like a who-knows-what-eo. All I’m sayin’ is Spider-Man, and I’m talkin’ about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, is gonna be in Venom.”

Now, this is of course unconfirmed at the moment, but one would have to imagine that Sony will be desperate to feature Holland’s web-slinger in the spinoff movies. Whether Marvel Studios agrees however is another matter entirely.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), Venom is set for release on October 5th 2018 and features a cast that includes Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott and Scott Haze.
