Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle director gives an update on Jumanji 3

July 8, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Last month, Dwayne Johnson officially confirmed that Jake Kasdan will be back in the director’s chair for next year’s sequel to the smash hit action adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and now the filmmaker has provided an update on the as-yet-untitled Jumanji 3 during an interview with Collider.

“The idea is to make the movie in the beginning of the year if we can get it all worked out,” said Kasdan. “We have not started figuring out the locations yet. Hawaii was a big part of Welcome to the Jungle and we love Hawaii, so it would be great to go back there. I think we’re getting very close to cracking the script. It’s a complicated little puzzle, but I think we got some good stuff cooking.”

” big part of what we’ve all loved about [Welcome to the Jungle] was that it was this big fantasy that has kind of like a real kind of like strong, emotional center to it, and I do think that’s a big part of what Dwayne Johnson responded to about it in the first place, and I know it’s a big part of what I loved about it,” Kasdan continued. “So part of the challenge of figuring out how it continues is to keep that alive in ways that feel earned and, you know, like a true continuation of the story.”

In addition to Dwayne Johnson, Jumanji 3 will see the return of Welcome to the Jungle co-stars Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black. It is set for release on December 13th 2019.

In the brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji.  When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.  What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you.  They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sees Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape) directing a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson (The Fate of the Furious), Kevin Hart (Central Intelligence), Jack Black (Goosebumps), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Rhys Darby (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Nick Jonas (Scream Queens), Alex Wolff (The Sitter), Madison Iseman (Still the King), Morgan Turner (Remember Me) and Ser’Darius Blain (Star Trek Into Darkness).
