Chris Evans wraps production on Avengers 4, and says goodbye to the role of Captain America?

October 4, 2018 by Ricky Church

Ever since 2011, Chris Evans has donned the star-spangled costume of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the leader of Earth’s mightiest heroes, the Avengers. Today may mark the end of an era for him and Captain America fans, though, as Evans announced via his Twitter that he has wrapped production on Avengers 4, and it sounds like he may be saying goodbye to Cap for good.

Evans first starred as Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger before appeared in 2012’s Marvel crossover hit Avengers alongside Iron Man‘s Robert Downey Jr. and Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth. Since then, Cap has become a staple of the MCU with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War. He was last seen as Cap in last summer’s Avengers: Infinity War where he took on Thanos with his bear hands and was among the cast members required for reshoots on Avengers 4, which comes out next summer as is seen as the grand finale to everything Marvel Studios has been planning since Avengers.

Evans previously spoke about exiting the role of Captain America a few months ago, telling The New York Times “You want to get off the train before they push you off”. He had also told Entertainment Tonight that he’ll miss everything about playing Cap and more. “I mean, it’s not just the character, it’s the people – the experience, such good movies, such wonderful memories. I’ll miss a lot.” Whether Cap will truly be gone from the MCU after Avengers 4 or Marvel will simply recast the role will have to be seen after the release of next year’s sequel, but Evans will certainly be a tough act to follow for any new Captain America.

What do you think on Evans’ exit as Cap? Do you think this marks his fate for Avengers 4 or will Marvel simply recast the role? Tell us your thoughts below…
