Comic Book Review – The Raid #3

October 3, 2018 by Calum Petrie

Calum Petrie reviews The Raid #3…

When we left the players of The Raid at the end of the first issue there was power plays, deception and undercover cops. That is still the case, though issue #2 raised the stakes on both the criminal and cop sides of the fence. The criminal boss Bejo had his new business venture burned to the ground, while Rama had to take fellow cop Teja under his protection to make sure an innocent cop didn’t die in prison.

Issue #3 shows that Rama has quite the undertaking as a cop in prison does not have a long life expectancy, and he has to be on edge to make sure they both stay alive. Bejo is out on a mission of revenge to show he is not the urchin he was brought up as; his past has not escaped him but loosing his restaurant has only motivated him into a power play. The rag tag band of assassins at Bejo’s side have really been stealing the show, with their quirky personalities and unconventional weapons. The group is a loveable band of pure evil and death, who just happen to know how to switch it off when they go home.

The fight scenes in this issue are played out beautifully and you tend to move through the fighting rapidly like it was playing out in front out you, and the artwork in general is outdoing itself in this series. The original source material made for an extremely enjoyable viewing experience and this comic adaptation is doing just the same; it is just a shame the issues are over before you know it. Anticipation builds up to a climactic boiling point, and I am very much look forward to finding out what happens next.
