UPDATE: David Fincher’s World War Z sequel won’t start shooting in March

January 11, 2019 by Gary Collinson

UPDATE: We’ve now heard from Paramount that Production Weekly’s information is incorrect and there is no official word as yet as to when filming on World War Z 2 will begin. Original story follows…

Having been pushed back multiple times over the past couple of years, it now seems that Paramount Pictures is finally ready to press ahead with the sequel to World War Z, which will reunite star Brad Pitt with his Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button director David Fincher.

The last we’d heard, the project had been delayed due to Pitt’s commitments to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Fincher’s Netflix series Mindhunter, with the producers suggesting a targeted start date of June 2019.

However, according to a listing in Production Weekly, filming on the as-yet-untitled World War Z 2 is gearing up to begin in late March, with the production taking in locations in Atlanta, Thailand and Spain through to January 2020.

The script for the sequel to the 2013 zombie blockbuster has been penned by Dennis Kelly (Utopia) from an original draft from Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). Mireille Enos is on board to reprise her role from the original movie, and if this rumoured March start date is accurate, we can presumably expect some official confirmation and casting news in the very near future.

Are you excited about the prospect of Pitt and Fincher reteaming for World War Z 2? Let us know your thoughts on the project in the comments below…
