Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adds Charlotte Rampling

January 17, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Casting continues on Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, with THR reporting that actress Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) signing on alongside the previously announced Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War) and Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again).

Dune follows Paul Atreides (Chalamet), the member of a noble family which controls the desert planet Arrakis, the only producer of a rare and highly valuable spice drug. Betrayed by a galactic emperor, Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control over the planet.

Ramping is set to portray the character of Reverend Mother Mohiam, described as “the emperor’s truthsayer, a person who can divine intentions, suss out lies and manipulate people’s emotional states.” The character was previously portrayed by Sian Phillips in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation.

So far, there’s no word on a potential release date for Villeneuve’s Dune, which is expected to be split across two movies.
