Rian Johnson debunks rumour that his new Star Wars trilogy has been scrapped

February 15, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has taken to sTwitter to debunk a rumour from SuperBroMovies, which claimed that “multiple sources” had confirmed that Johnson had stepped away from his planned Star Wars trilogy at Disney and Lucasfilm.

No it isn’t true, I’m still working on the trilogy. With all due respect to the movie bros, who I’m sure are lovely kind bros with good fraternal intentions.

— Rian Johnson (@rianjohnson) February 14, 2019

SuperBroMovies then issued a response, apologising to Johnson for sharing the bogus report:

Here is our official statement on the situation that occurred tonight. We would like to clear the air and wish our sincere apologies to @rianjohnson pic.twitter.com/kDJFxrKlZA

The news that Johnson had received the keys to his very own Star Wars trilogy was revealed back in November 2017, when excitement for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was running sky high. Fast forward a couple of months, and the initial enthusiasm for Johnson’s trilogy had dampened for many fans who were disappointed by his take on the galaxy far, far away with Episode VIII.

What we can take from this situation is confirmed that, for the time being at least, Johnson’s trilogy remains part of Disney and Lucasfilm’s plans in the post-Solo: A Star Wars Story shake-up, unlike the long-gestating Boba Fett anthology film which was revealed back in October to be “100% dead”.
