Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi rules out directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

February 5, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has confirmed that he will not be directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

We have gotten multiple assurances recently that the currently directorless Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen, despite James Gunn’s firing. First James’ brother Sean guaranteed it and now Chris Pratt has as well.

One person that has been put forward by many as a replacement for Gunn is Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, with many believing his style would be a great fit for the franchise. However, speaking at TCA (via Deadline), the director has confirmed that he won’t be taking the job:

“For me, those are James [Gunn]’s films. Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now. It feels kind of awkward.”

Are you disappointed by these comments by Waititi? If the film gets made, someone is going to have to take the job. Let us know who you would like in the comments below…
