James Cameron would not have returned for Terminator: Dark Fate without Arnold Schwarzenegger

May 30, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Terminator mastermind James Cameron has revealed that he would not have returned to produce Terminator: Dark Fate without Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Terminator franchise is back once more with Terminator: Dark Fate, and while some people may not be as excited about the prospect of another entry in the saga as they once were, this new film has something else to offer – it sees original director James Cameron returning as a producer.

Cameron and original star Arnold Schwarzenegger are two huge selling points for the series and Cameron has revealed to Flicks and the City (in a since-removed interview – via Cinema Blend), that he would not have come back without the actor:

“I said ‘Look I’d love to be involved in this, but I can’t be involved in a Terminator movie without working with my good friend of 35 years, Arnold Schwarzenegger, even if it’s to officially pass the baton to a new generation of characters. So that’s what we all agreed to do. Then the question became what about Linda Hamilton, does Linda want to come back?”

Hamilton has indeed come back for the movie so the band is well and truly back together, even if Cameron isn’t directing the film himself. It will be interesting to see if all this is enough to make Terminator: Dark Fate a success.

Terminator: Dark Fate is being directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), with James Cameron producing, and sees Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) and Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) reprising their roles alongside new cast additions Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Natalia Reyes (Lady), Diego Boneta (Pretty Little Liars) and Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
