Back in December it was revealed that Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures is producing an adaptation of the 1983 James Herbert horror novel Shrine, and now comes word from Deadline that The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has signed on to star.
The film, which is being written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos (screenwriter on Beauty and the Beast and The Huntsman: Winter’s War), will see Morgan portraying “a disgraced journalist who discovers a series of seemingly divine miracles in a small New England town and uses them to resurrect his career – but the ‘miracles’ may have a much darker source.”
Shrine reunites Morgan with Ghost House, the actor having previously starred in the 2012 horror The Possession, which proved a solid box office hit with $85 million from a budget of just $14 million.
Morgan was last seen on the big screen alongside Dwayne Johnson in last year’s Rampage, and returns to his role as Negan when The Walking Dead’s tenth season premieres next month.
