The Mandalorian actor Bill Burr says he would make fun of Star Wars movies because he’s a “jerk”

September 18, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Bill Burr, who will appear in Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, has revealed that he would religiously make fun of Star Wars movies when they came out.

Not every actor who appears in Star Wars content is a fan of the films themselves and this is just where The Mandalorian actor Bill Burr finds himself.

The comedian has admitted he never got into the films and would therefor make fun of them when they came out because others liked them so much. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, he said:

“This is the thing, I’ve never been a sci-fi…I like Blade Runner, there was a movie Sam Rockwell did called Moon, I like that sort of dark, creepy, Stanley Kubrick [2001: A Space Odyssey], I like that, I was never into the Star Wars thing. By the time I saw it, I was just too old, they had like Ewoks and stuff, and I wanted to see Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I missed the boat so I never got on it and I’ve religiously made fun of every one of them that came out. Just teasing, just because people are excited. I’m a jerk, I see people get excited about something and I just make fun of it.”

Why did Burr get involved with The Mandalorian? The actor recalled: “I ran into Jon Favreau somewhere…and he was like, ‘Hey, I’m doing this Star Wars thing, would you wanna do something?’ And I was like, ‘I kinda always made fun of it,’ and he was just going, ‘I think that’d be funny. I think your fans would get a kick out of the fact, if you went into that thing,’ and then I went in there and they were shooting it like a Spaghetti Western. And I was immediately so psyched to be a part of it.”

The Mandalorian sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Natalie Tena (Game of Thrones), Bill Burr (F Is for Family) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man). It is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 12th 2019.
