Benioff and Weiss’ cancelled Star Wars trilogy was reportedly about the origin of the Jedi

October 31, 2019 by Samuel Brace

The cancelled trilogy of Star Wars films from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss was reportedly going to tell the origin of the Jedi.

News has broken this week that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would no longer be making a trilogy of Star Wars films. The excuse seemed to be that their deal with Netflix was getting in the way but it also seems like Lucasfilm didn’t quite like what the two had planned for the movies.

Variety has a report out about what really went down and what the films would have been about: “Benioff and Weiss had ambitious plans to take the Star Wars universe in a new direction, one that would exist apart from the Skywalker family saga that comprised the franchise’s centerpiece nine-film series. The Star Wars period the pair was interested in exploring was how the Jedi came to exist. However, Lucasfilm executives and the creators begin to see their visions for the films diverge during meetings last summer.”
