Here’s another look at Sonic the Hedgehog’s movie redesign

November 7, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

While Paramount Pictures is yet to officially unveil its new-look Sonic the Hedgehog – redesigned after a savage backlash following the release of a first trailer for the live-action/CG-animated movie – we have seen a couple of leaked shots [see here and here], and now a theater standee has been spotted out in the wild which gives us our best look yet at the SEGA mascot’s much more traditional appearance.

The new design is certainly a huge improvement, but will it be enough to quash the early hate for the movie? Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long until we see Sonic in action in a new trailer, but in the meantime let us know what you make of the redesign and whether you’re looking forward to the film.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog is directed by Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke) and features a cast that includes Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), James Marsden (Westworld), Jim Carrey (Kidding), Adam Pally (Happy Endings), Tika Sumpter (Ride Along), Neal McDonough (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon). It is set for release on February 14th 2020.
