Henry Cavill in talks to return as Superman in the DC Extended Universe

May 28, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Just days after helping announce Zack Snyder’s Justice League during a Man of Steel Vero watch party, it seems Henry Cavill is looking to return to the iconic red cape by reprising the role of Superman in a future DC Extended Universe project

Last seen in 2017’s Justice League, Cavill has not reprised the role of Superman since, with rumours circulating back in 2018 that he’d actually exited the DCEU; Warner Bros. went as far as featuring a Superman cameo in Shazam! with a stand-in who never showed their face. However, it is now being reported that negotiations are underway between the studio and Cavill’s management with regards to his return.

Sources close to Deadline say there are no current plans for a Man of Steel 2, and Superman will feature in few potential ways. That boils down to no standalone film, but we could see Superman pop up in something like Black Adam or Aquaman 2. Cavill is not expected to appear in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, while films like Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad have already wrapped.

Should a deal be reached, it would mark Henry Cavill’s fourth appearance as Superman, following 2013’s Man of Steel, the polarizing 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League from 2017. The next time we’ll see Cavill in the role will be 2021 as Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes to HBO Max.
