Reports about Henry Cavill’s Superman return may have been premature

May 31, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Fans of Henry Cavill’s Superman received some exciting news this past week when it was stated that the actor is in talks with Warner Bros. about the Man of Steel’s next appearance in the DC Extended Universe, but it seems the report may have been a little premature.

According to THR, Cavill is not in negotiations with the studio at this point and Superman does not currently feature in any completed DCEU script, which rules out both Black Adam and The Flash. However, there is indeed legitimate interest in his return, and ideas are being discussed as to what a future Cavill appearance as Superman might look like within the DC movie landscape ahead of what we assume would then be official talks.

Cavill last appeared as Superman in 2017’s Justice League, and was wanted for a cameo in Shazam!, although this was ultimately shot using a body double after the two parties failed to reach a deal. This led to rumours that Cavill had decided to follow Ben Affleck out of the DCEU door, although that talk was subsequently played down by both Cavill and the studio.

While we await official news on Superman’s big screen, we will be able to see more of Cavill’s Man of Steel when Zack Snyder’s Justice League arrives on HBO Max in 2021. In the meantime, let us know if and how you’d like to see Superman integrated back into the DCEU…
