Microsoft officially announces Xbox Series S, price revealed

September 8, 2020 by Andrew Newton

Microsoft have revealed the price of the Xbox Series S console via a tweet published this morning.  The tweet announced “Let’s make it official.” and revealed a price of $299 / £249 for what they are boasting to be the smallest Xbox console ever made.

The Xbox Series S, a smaller and cheaper version of the next-generation Xbox Series X, was first mentioned in August when an image of an Xbox controller box appeared online.  Since then no mention of this console was made until Microsoft until now.

The console pictured alongside the tweet shows a much slimmer console to that of the Xbox Series X and has a large circular fan on the side (not that it’s hard to miss).  There also seems to be no disk drive which also matches previous rumours that have circulated.

Microsoft insider Brad Sams recently mentioned the technical specs for the Xbox Series S on Thurrott as supporting resolutions up to 1440p with variable refresh rates up to 120 fps plus ray tracing, variable-rate shading and a whopping 512GB SSD (solid-state drive).

Microsoft ended their tweet with “Looking forward to sharing more! Soon. Promise.”, but will they be sharing an actual release date or a price for the flag-ship Xbox Series X? We can only be patient and wait.
