Supernatural wraps production as Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Eric Kripke react to end of an era

September 11, 2020 by Ricky Church

It has been a long road for Sam and Dean Winchester throughout the 15 seasons of Supernatural, but it has finally come to an end as the series wrapped production yesterday. The longest-running sci-fi horror series on television concluded production on the final season with series creator Eric Kripke and stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki reacting to the bittersweet end of their unprecedented run.

First premiering in 2005, Supernatural followed the brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they roamed the country hunting monsters and demons. Their journey eventually saw them battling angels, other mythical monsters and even Lucifer himself as they tried saving humanity from untold dangerous threats while overcoming their personal baggage and growing as brothers.

Kripke spoke on the last day of Supernatural‘s production by reflecting on its beginning, sharing a picture of the very first scene shot in the series with a young Padalecki and Ackles. “This was the first #Supernatural scene we shot. Today will be the last. I’m grateful & love you all beyond words. But it’s only over when you say it is, #SPNFamily. In the words of Kim Manners (RIP): Kick It In The Ass.”

“Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock,” Padalecki said in his Instagram post. “Thank y’all SO MUCH for the incredible amount of love and support that’s been headed our way, in these final hours. It’s definitely been felt.”

Well, here goes… I write this as I head to my last day of #Supernatural. My last day with #SamWinchester. Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock. Thank y’all SO MUCH for the incredible amount of love and support that’s been headed our way, in these final hours. It’s definitely been felt. I’ll check in soon, but, for now, #WeHaveWorkToDo #spnfamily

“Woke up at 6am this morning. That alarm went off with a heavy tone,” Ackles began in his Instagram post. “Today is the final day of a 15 year journey. One that has changed my life forever. To those I have worked with on this journey and to those who have watched and supported…you will never understand my great appreciation for you. “Thank you” doesn’t cover it. There just aren’t words. I’m so grateful for these memories that I will carry with me forever. What a ride it has been. And what a run.” He continued by sharing a few pictures from the set of Supernatural‘s last production shoots, including their final day on set.

I’ll try and send more later, but in true SPN form…we are in the middle of “nowhere” and have zero service. Go figure. Stay tuned.

Supernatural ran for 15 seasons with a total of 327 episodes. The final season’s production was hampered with the worldwide health crisis, forcing production to shutdown along with many others. With production having resumed and now concluded, the series finale is set to air on November 19.

Sam and Dean have spent their lives on the road, battling supernatural threats that include everything from the demon that killed their mother to the usual vampires, ghosts, shape-shifters, angels and fallen gods rampaging over the land. They’ve come out on top with the help of allies, both human and supernatural, but every victory comes at a price.

Supernatural season 15 returns on October 8th.
